Francois Demachy has ruined Miss Dior Cherie

click on this image for the site i stole it from

I've been buying Miss Dior Cherie perfume since 2007 so I consider myself to be a very loyal Dior customer. I started off with the eau de toilette version but have been buying the eau de parfum 1 to 2 times a year since which smells exactly the same only stronger. It smells so cute, like strawberries and popcorn :)

Around christmas 2010 I was buying another bottle of the eau de parfum and to my horror it just didn't have the same smell! I eventually got used to the smell and it still had the little strawberry kick to it. I think the ones in stores are affected by the bright lights. I noticed that the number on the back of the box in the ingredients section was different to the one I had bought the year before. The 2010 one is N° 04460/A and the previous box was N° 01670. I came to the conclusion that they had reformulated it slightly without saying anything which was quite disappointing..... It doesn't end there though.

In spring 2011 the marketing campaign for the reformulated Miss Dior Cherie came out featuring Natalie Portman who looks exquisite and I think goes perfectly with the brand :)

Now it's summer and almost my birthday and I'm running out of my Miss Dior Cherie eau de parfum so I thought it was time to get another one :) I went into Boots where I bought it previously and sprayed it just because I couldn't resist it HOWEVER this is where I noticed that the perfume smelled even more different this time!! The strawberry smell had gone completely and it smelled of OLD WOMAN perfume! It just honked. I decided to spray the eau de toilette to see if it smelled any better and it just smelled WORSE! it was nothing like the eau de parfum and nothing like the previous one either. I was seriously beginning to wonder if it was just me! I asked the woman at the Dior counter if it had been changed yet again because the one I bought in 2010 smelled different and she said the one I bought in 2010 was infact the old one (which to be honest I think was changed slightly!) they didn't actually get the new one in until April 2011. She also mentioned that the eau de toilette is not meant to be a lighter version of the eau de parfum but a different perfume all together!

WHY DIOR HAS CHOSEN TO DO THIS IS BEYOND ME!
Seriously. What were they thinking when they allowed Francois Demachy to get his dirty paws on Miss Dior Cherie! He has completely taken away the whole point of it, it was unique, so girly yet luxurious and now it just smells like any other heavy musky perfume. It smells gross. No wonder I've been reading reviews where people are saying "don't know what all the fuss is about, this smells like it could kill small children or animals!", "i almost passed out after smelling this". All the people who have been raving about it and saying how amazing it smells have bought the previous one and are still using it so have no idea how disgusting the new one smells!

I went round the shops today in an attempt to find a new signature scent.... I had a conversation with the girl at the Dior counter in House of Fraser and she didn't understand why they decided to change it and said that lots of people have been complaining about it. No bloody wonder. Why couldn't they just have launched a completely different perfume - 'Miss Dior Cherie all grown up and stinking of old woman'. Sounds perfect.

ANYWAY! Another girl from Dior came over and she told me that they still had a box of the previous version behind the counter!! I actually couldn't believe it, everywhere else I'd been only had the new one. She showed me the box and it had the same number on the back (N°04460) (which is different to the new box)!! The little CD sticker on the packaging was white whereas the new one is pink! I was so delighted I bought it there and then! They still charged me the same price £60.50 for 50ml which I guess was ok since I'm not likely to get it ever again........ They also gave me a couple of testers for the new version but that's definitely not going to make me buy it once I've finished the other one.

So here's what I got  :) All beautifully wrapped..

White logo as opposed to pink on the new one.

Some of my Miss Dior Cherie bottles collection which I use for decoration :D

I'd just like to mention that this post isn't meant to sound like a personal attack on Francois Demachy! Yes I think he made a mistake in changing the fragrance but I hadn't even heard of him until i read about the new Miss Dior Cherie launch.... you probably think I live under a rock :)

Here's what the old version by Christine Nagel first launched in (2005) smells like:
Top: pineapple, cherry, strawberry, mandarin
Heart: popcorn, caramel, jasmine, rose, violet
Base: patchouli, musk, amber

and the new much disliked 2011 version by Francois Demachy:
Top: sparkling citruses (mandarin orange);
Heart: Rose Damascena, intense jasmine;
Base notes: Patchouli, Vetyver, Sandalwood, Moss, Amber.

Thank you for reading :) let me know what your thoughts are! Even those of you who do actually like the new version ;)

  1. It sounds like a personal attack on "old women", though. "Stinking of old woman"... really? We can use other terms to express what we want without offending anyone. And please don't say it's okay only because a lot of immature people use it as a language term. I feel sad and ashamed so many people think it's okay to talk about older people/older people's preferences like that.
    FYI, my grandma and mother smell wonderfull and have a great preference on perfumes, not disgusting at all.

    On the perfume - I miss the first Miss Dior Chérie so much! I like the new one too (I find it classy, delicious), but I like it as a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FRAGRANCE - and got very angry when I knew they reformulated it, one of my fave fumes! My caramel popcorn...
    Two thumbs down, Dior.

  2. We need to start a petition on Dior's website. Demanding to brIng back the original version. It was playful and sweet. I have a 100 Ml bottle that I use sparingly. I wonder why Dior reformulated it in the first place. It was a very popular fragrance and a sell out. Do let me know at my lil blog called pandoras box if you find out.
    Great post by the way.

    1. Join the Facebook page Miss Dior Cherie, bring it back. I will forward a link to the page to the Dior consumer complaints department.

  3. Thank you for posting this - I went to Ulta and they tried to convince me that I was crazy for thinking it smelled different and I think old lady describes it perfectly. I just found one with N 04460 on Ebay that I am planning on using sparingly :)

  4. This post has had me very intrigued, as I've been considering buying the Miss Dior Cherie perfume for a while now, but to my surprise it's not even on the shelves anymore! Nope, now it's been transformed to simply Miss Dior, and what WAS Miss Dior beforehand is now Miss Dior Originale!

    While I don't mind this change as I haven't bought any of the perfumes yet, I was wondering what would be the best way for me to tell the difference between the two different formulations of Miss Dior Cherie? At one point during your blog I noticed you wrote "The 2010 one is N° 04460/A and the previous box was N° 01670". I've been thinking two things since reading this; #1 What is this number? Is it a serial number or something else? And #2 Whatever sort of number this is, what was the number given to the new 2011 version? And also, how many of these numbers are there altogether, if that's at all possible to know? I only ask so that when I start my hunt for some Miss Dior Cherie (as opposed to this new Miss Dior) I can be sure of just exactly which version I'm buying, and also which formulation. If anyone could help me with this I would very much appreciate it! :)

  5. I simply adore the 2011 version. It's the single perfume I have EVER received compliments on, and I own loads of perfumes. They discontinued the Cherie line altogether sadly, but my local dillards still had a 3.4 oz thank god. (Oh by the way, I'm only 24 and loathe old lady perfumes but this one...is my signature scent) It's not old lady like in the slightest, just rather strong and very unique.

  6. Hello, do you know the batch number on the new Miss Dior ? I have a 30ml Miss Dior Chérie with 04460/A from April 2010 and one MDC 100ml with 05615/A from Jan 2011. Do you know exactly when Dior reformulated the frangrance? Was it after January of 2011? I need to know this asap and can't find the answer anywhere.

  7. Hi! Regarding the empty bottles pictures you posted, can you confirm if the one in the middle with the silver lettering without the white label, is it the old or the newer version? The thing is i bought this perfume in an online perfume store and the batch number near the ingredients marks 01669/A. Also in checkcosmetic.net the search engine returns the information the vial is dated from March, 2005. Nevertheless, there is no sweet candy popcorn smell in here, just plain fruity-floral-patchouli scent quite similar to Coco Mademoiselle. Can you confirm if the bottle in the middle is from the old or the new version of it?
